Ping Shek - Heng chow highway, accompanied by

Mr. E.K. Low, District Engineer, Heng chow.

Mr. Li Lu Chao and Mr. S.K. Lee did not proceed

north of Ping Shek, as the former had to return

to Canton on urgent business. The Ping Shek

Heng chow highway roughly parallels the railway

and this enabled construction features to be

inspected en route. Arrived Heng chow at 6 p.m.

and was accommodated in the Guest House (one of

the 16 staff bungalows which is reserved for

inspecting officials). Met Mr. Yung, the

Assistant Director, and other senior officials

(Mr. Ling, the Director, was absent due to a

conference in Nanking).

25.11.35 Proceeded in a pump trolley at 7 a.m. to inspect

the Lei Ho Bridge (341st mile) and other

construction features including the Station

Building, the Siang River Wharf and the

marshalling yards, accompanied by various

officials. The Lei Ho Bridge is the largest

of the four steel river bridges under construct-

ion and consists of 4 spans of 60 metres and 8

of 18 metres. Left Heng chow at 10,45 a.m. for

Ping Shek by motor on the highway accompanied

by Mr. H.T. Hsia, Head of the Business Division

and Superintendent of Heng chow Store. Inspected

Construction works en route. Arrived Ping Shek

at 4.30 p.m. and left at 6 p.m. for Lok Chong,

arriving there at 7.15 p.m. 3pent the night in

a private saloon at Lok Chong.
